Thanks alot for this guide! Been looking at installing this mod for a while and now this guide made it super simple. Looking forward to a complete guide!
It sounds to me like you've done something out of order. If you don't follow the guide exactly, it will crash I believe. I've tested it and it's worked.
However, there's a possibility that it's a problem on my end. Can you post any error messages you get, your hardware specs, OS, etc for me? And if you get the chance, retry the guide?
I followed all the steps in order but no dice. I've heard from some people this requires the RealismIV mod to work, is this true? I've had to completely redownload and am going to try again. I use a 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium, 6GB RAM, 3.40 GHz AMD Phenom II x4 965 Processor, and a 1.5GB nVidia GTX 320 graphics card.
Hey Lusit. I followed your guide to the letter but it still crashes. I get get to the start menu and press "Start" but when it says "Starting New Game" in the bottom right corner of the screen it will either crash (exe has stopped working blah blah) or just freeze. I am on Windows7 with a Nvidia 275.
Also, Just thought I would let you know that when the game is loading (Rockstar logo etc) it only says that it is version 1.2. I did install the "h1vltg3’s Modified Icenhancer 1.2.5 Shaders and Config" so im not sure if that is not working.
After spending several hours redownloading (a second time) and following each step to the word and launched by directly clicking on LaunchgtaIV.exe in the GTAIV folder and instead of crashing on start up, it now crashes upon trying to start a game from the menu; it goes through the loading screen and I start to hear the intro music, and then it crashes (I do see the little text at the top of the screen saying IceEnhancer is installed). If I try to run LaunchGTAIV a second time, it crashes on startup.
Are you absolutely positively sure that you haven't written anything wrong or out of order in your guide? I would go into as much detail as you can on how you got it to work, just in case we are misinterpreting something, as I am quite tired of trying to get this silly mod to work.
(That's fine, it's icenhancer version 1.2. Version 1.2.5 is a bit wacky, and doesn't look as good.) (H. Download ICenhancer 1.2.5 from here. It contains the 1.2 version. Drag and drop the contents of iCEnhancer125.rar\Normal version for 1040 patch\ to your GTAIV folder.)
Works perfectly, make sure you don't have the scripthook files in the directory because this uses xlive.dll instead. I had that in there still and my game would crash on startup.
wierdest thing happen,k i had game instaled and cracked with razor crack 1.0.4.0 and i took all files from normal version 1040 icenhacer folder and put it in gta 4 directory.i tried to run it and it didnt run.so i uninstaled game and deleted saves.i reinstalled game and cracked it with razor 1040 and when i started it up it had the ice vertion installed!!!! so weird! but it worked and i didnt have to do all that confusing stuff. the only problem is when i play it through desktop icon i cant change graphics,so i created another desktop icon from the launchgtaIV in the directory. i put -norestrictions in the properties target and am able to change graphics to 1080 now but i cant change texture quality to high, and it laggs, but when i play through regular desktop icon it comes in just below 1080 and does not lagg.so bogglefiying.any response to this?
also the game looked really nice but my 2 gigs of ram will need to be upgraded if i want to play this high quality version but the regular version works flawlessly with only 2 gigs of ram. so a reminder to those who are trying to get this to run, make sure your version is 1.0.4.0 and take everything from the icenhancer folder 1040 and put it into gta 4 directory and select yes to everything it askes, then try to run game.it will probably not work, then uninstal game deleting saves and all that,re-instal game and it will work!!!!!!!

ReplyDeleteStill crashes on startup...

Alternatively get on #sjgr on the Rizon IRC network and I will talk to you there.
ReplyDeleteWill this work with the DLC installed as well?

ReplyDeleteI see no reason why it wouldn't work with the DLC, Oilman. Let me know if it does/doesn't, if you can.
ReplyDeleteAlso, anon, I'm looking into it. Tell me how it goes when you try again and follow the steps very carefully.

I am reinstalling GTA IV and will be testing the guide out again to see if there are any problems.

ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm getting that crash after start-up, too :(
ReplyDeleteAll of you, try launching your game with LaunchGTAIV.exe instead of however you're doing it now.
ReplyDeleteNo dice :(
ReplyDeleteTry redoing the guide. I've tried it and it works.
ReplyDeleteMine worked but I get shaky cam, was a legal steam install. Ideas?
ReplyDeleteThat's copy protection. Launch through LaunchgtaIV.exe and you will not have that problem.

so am i to install version 1.2 or 1.25?

ok nevermind this versions contains 1.2 one other question do i need to run the game once before modding it?
ReplyDeleteeven though i Set GTAIV to not automatically update on Steam. the product version is 1.0.7.0. do i need to download again?
ReplyDeleteYes, you do have to run it once before modding. I should have mentioned that in the guide, sorry.
ReplyDeleteAlso, if it's working fine, it doesn't matter what the product version says, I assume.
Doesn't work.
ReplyDeleteWorks perfectly, make sure you don't have the scripthook files in the directory because this uses xlive.dll instead. I had that in there still and my game would crash on startup.
ReplyDelete"even though i Set GTAIV to not automatically update on Steam. the product version is 1.0.7.0. do i need to download again?"
ReplyDeleteI would say yeah probably, checking the file version of GTAIV.exe in the gtaiv folder shows 1.0.4.0 for me.
Make sure you 'Run as Administrator' on vista/7 or the program won't be able to access all of the files. I get startup crashes if i forget to do so.

ReplyDeletewhere to paste texture packs ???
ReplyDeleteCould you please post a tutorial for Icenhancer 1.3 on steam??
ReplyDeleteAnon 1: Paste textures packs where the readme tells you to. There is no .pak or .dzip like file for GTAIV, which is unfortuante.
ReplyDeleteDeadrekon13: I do not have any response to that, it's quite interesting. I would suggest talking to the creator of Icenhancer about it.
Anon 2: I wasn't aware iCenhancer 1.3 was released. I'll get on it when I have the other mod guides I'm working on released.
