Oh no! MGE isn't working!

HEY, WE MOVED!

You can find the MGE troubleshooter here at the new site.

  1. Instead of disabling UAC, I would recommend simply running Morrowind, its launcher, and MGE as administrator. This will keep their registry entries from being redirected into the VirtualStore. This also means you get to keep the benefics of UAC elsewhere.

  2. Crashes on startup for me, but I'm not sure if my Direct X or .NET is up to date (I have cripplingly bad internet bandwidth, so these aren't an option at this time). I know it's a fault on my end and not with the guide, just throwing it out there.

  3. Now I'm getting a d3dx9_40.dll error after updating VC++.

  4. I run Windows 7 and I could not use the version you posted on your blog even after re-installing every single requirement. The best solution I've found is to simply use a ealier version of MGE.

This is the one I used. Just replace all the files o your previous MGE with these and it should work fine.

  5. The MGE "stable beta" is ancient and not really worth using, Anon. Here is a link to the one I linked to in my guide. I have no idea why you couldn't find it.

  6. The error message I get when I try to run this is Unable to find Morrowind Registry keys, please run the game before installing MGE, I tried running the game but that didn't do anything, I have no idea what to do now

  7. Well I looked up MGE and installed it from TESNexus instead the sourceforge link you put up and now it works, I still don't know why it wasn't working but I guess it doesn't matter now

  8. Knots, the problem with me is that the version YOU posted on the guide does NOT work. I use Windows 7 and my Morrowind directory is C:/Games/Bethesda...ect

The problem is that, even though I installed every requirement, MGE simply fails to start up when I click on MGEgui. It just brings up a windows error window and stops the application. However, the Stable Beta I posted worked absolutely fine. I don't know why this is, but it worked.

    Again,

  9. Ah! Here, I have found a solution to my problem!

    http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/303372-i-cant-get-mge-382-to-work/

You should mention this in your guide in case anyone else happens to have troubles with their MGE starting up.

  10. Don't you think it is a little strange you assume the version I have posted in my guide does not work when you are the first person to mention it being completely broken like that out of the 10s of thousands of people who have been through the guide? The more likely explanation is that you have installed it incorrectly, probably starting with the requirements.

I will look into it regardless but 3.8.2 does NOT work with many of the MGE mods I have linked in the MGE section of my guide. Neither is it as stable as the latest subversion.

  11. I didn't mean to imply that your version was wrong, I was merely wondering why 3.8.2 was not working on my machine.

  12. You should send me an email so we can figure this out together, anon. I will update the links to the MGE requirements in my guide and try to put a better link to the latest SVN in there too if it's messed up.

  13. No need, as I mentioned I fixed my issue by doing what the man in this link said.

    http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/303372-i-cant-get-mge-382-to-work/

I was just saying you should add this to the list of possible solutions because it worked for me and it would improve the quality of your blog even more, and help anyone else who comes across this problem.

  14. Thank you, I did what the guy said on the link and it works now, Knots you should pout that in your guide.

  15. "MGE requires a fully patched copy of Bloodmoon"

I get this fucking message even though I have GOTY edition and the game and the expansions are all fully updated. I've even tried to install the latest update, but that doesn't work and just does fucking nothing, leaving me with a defunct MGE. Fucking Windows 7.

  16. Never mind, got it working after a Bloodmoon reinstall. Don't know why that didn't occur to me to do that in the first place.

  17. MGE appears to run fine for me but it screws up Morrowind. I've now followed through the guide 3 times from a fresh install and each time the same error occurs. The launcher starts up fine, I click "Play" and then my screen goes black. No error message, just blank screen. Oddly, sound plays for a few seconds followed by a "ping" sound as if an error window opened but there is no visible error message. Help? =(

    Btw, I'm running Windows 7, 64-bit.

  18. Also, I am using the steam version which does install in program files(86). However, the game works with all the mods enabled but not with mge.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Try disabling the Steam Overlay, anon.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I did that already as per the instructions in the guide. Didn't help. =/

    I'm at a complete loss.

  21. UAC is also disabled.

  22. Having same issue with blank screen, Eventually got it to work by starting morrowind, going to options on the main menu and changing the mode to window, Though I'd like to play full screen if a solution arrives.

  23. Update: I reinstalled Direct x9 even though I was pretty sure I had it installed. I then uninstalled Morrowind and started the guide from scratch. Now MGE simply gives the error message "This program has stopped working." *pulls hair out* I never got a chance to try the windowed mode fix.

I'm determined to get this working. Been wanting to play Morrowind for so long now.

  24. Anonymous, try starting Morrowind, changing the resolution from the launcher, loading the game up then quiting out.

  25. I wonder if the linked Phal's d3d8 186 scatter cloud v5 d3d8.dll is incompatible with MGE3.8, as I get messages about a missing MGE.INI file after installing this v5 .dll..

  26. well im at a complete loss here by the way mah names misfit, ive tryd every guide im running xp but the thing is first time i installed the morrowind overhaul mge wasnt evan there for some reason and now ive had to reinstall it then mge appears ive tried the window fix i have all patches/tribunal/bloodmoon and it still wont work and it says mge is not configured run it to configure and when i run mge it says it encountered a problem and has to stop so im really angry!!!!

  27. by the way cool blog title

  28. I can't really supply very good support for the "Morrowind Overhaul" since I don't use it. If MGE says it's not configured to run, one of the above steps SHOULD fix your problem.

Even though I don't use the "Overhaul", I'd be willing to give your case a look over, but you need to email me the specific error MGE gives you when you try to launch it.
