Deus Ex Modding Guide

HEY, WE MOVED!

You can find the Deus Ex Modding guide here at the new site.

  1. You forgot to include shifter, which should be essential to anyone wanting to replay this game.

There's also a DX9/OpenGL renderer for those who are still running XP and don't care to update (like my old laptops.)

  2. This is a cool guide and all, but when's the Fallout 3 guide coming out, Lusit?

  3. @Anonymous: Yes, I know all about shifter, but I haven't tested it out yet on my own. I'd like to know firsthand its quality before I put it in a guide. Also, I know about the DX9 renderer, but I am going to have to write another part of the guide for that, with enbseries and whatnot. Another mod I want to use has a version that requires DX10. If you have any other suggestions, however, I'd love to hear them.

  4. 2a you say...? where would that be?

  5. Anonymous: I had to leave quickly and couldn't finish the rest of the guide. It'll be up by tonight. I have to find decent inis though.

  6. I'm debating getting back into Deus Ex, any chance you could post some screens?

    ReplyDelete
  7. Yeah, I'll have screens up in a little bit.

Glad to know there's some people interested in this guide :)

  8. Where can I get a digital copy of Deus Ex other than on Steam? Also you should put this as a tab at the top like Oblivion and Morrowind.

  9. Anonymous: You can get it on direct2drive from here (http://www.direct2drive.com/78/product/Buy-Deus-Ex:-Game-of-the-Year-Edition-Download), gamersgate from here (http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-DX/deus-ex-game-of-the-year-edition), and I believe you can get it for free from gametap, but I don't know the specifics. This guide was written for the steam version, but should work with non-steam versions.

Also, we're planning on having lots of different mod guides, and will have a miscellaneous tab. There's no need for a tab for every one. The Oblivion and Morrowind mod guides have tabs because they are major, big pageview bringers, and likely our biggest draw.

  10. 'Biomod' for Deus Ex is also a nice mod. And it includes the latest Shifter.

And keep an eye on Deus Ex Revision ;)

  11. I've heard of Biomod, but to my knowledge it does not play well with Deus Ex Enhanced.

Also, I feel that Revision changes the game too much to be included in this guide.

  12. Just wanted to say thanks for putting this together. I have the good ol CD version from back in the day, and after trying to get it to play on my windows 7 system (and failing), I went ahead and set my system up to dual boot w/ XP just for this game. (what can i say? it's one of the best ever!)
Although it does run now, i did run into some of the other issues that your guide helped me to fix (multi-core timing issues and the UI scaling annoyances). So thanks again for a concise, well researched guide for getting one of the best games ever running smoothly!

PS, I'll be checking out the morrowind section later... Another gem i'm not willing to let fade into oblivion! (sorry, bad pun, lol)

  13. I'm glad to get your feedback, Ultima. It's nice to hear feedback that isn't suggestions or problems once in a while. I made this guide because I ran into these problems, and decided people would benefit from having a guide to help them out.

Happy playing, and enjoy Morrowind, too.

  14. How do I install the Deus Ex Directx 9 renderer? I may need more help with installing the other stuff too but this one doesnt even have a readme. Please be very very specific (as if you were talking to a 10 year old) when you explain this. Thanks in advance.

  15. So I got ENB working, and then New Vision. Problem is that they dont work at the same time. Please help.

    ReplyDelete
  16. So now they both work sort of. Im not seeing any reflections though.

  17. Can you post a screenshot so I can get a feel for what you're saying? Also, get in the IRC channel #SJGR on irc.rizon.net. When you're in there, IDLE, since I can't immediately check forever and always. I'll help you, if you get in there, as soon as I can.

  18. So Im Haus. I do not know why the damn blog thing says that my account doesnt have permission to view the page. So I got the reflections working but now the problem is shifter.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Haus again. If you wanted to know how I got the reflections working it was as simple as going to the .ini file and changing the associated text to say True. I found this from nerdenstein on Off Topic Productions.

  20. Haus again. I almost forgot: the problem with shifter is a general protection fault and it talks about deleting specific files. I placed the files indicated in the readme and when it told me the file(s) already existed I chose to overwrite them from habit. Not sure what other imformation I could give you unless you want me to write down the specifics of the GP fault.

  21. Haus again. Heres my email: claytargetshooter@gmail.com

  22. Haus again. Just another FYI. I didnt install HDTP, but that shouldnt matter should it? The reason why was simply because somone told me not to. That idea was reinforced for the following reasons: It only changes Gunther Herman and some minor objects in the game from what ive heard and also heard its a little tedious to install. However, I have noticed that NV textures make everything look good except said minor objects which is a little annoying. Thanks in advance for the support. I would give you more info to save time but Im not sure what your looking for.

  23. It's worth it to install HDTP. It's not tedious at all. Hell, it's an exe. You just run it.

Also, the Gunther Hermann model is amazing.

Is everything working on your end now?

  24. So I didnt previously install Kentie Launcher which is what I assume was the problem since I now did. So I assume it is fixed since I dont get a GPF error... although it freezes when I go to training. The first time it happened the game simply closed and told me it "needed to close". Every time after that it freezes and stays that way so I have to shut down. Might be this old computer. Would you mind giving me some links to update stuff, as I am not familiar with where to go. Yes I have GOTY Deus Ex. Also I couldnt get HDTP to work and I know it has an exe, but it says it cant detect my directory and so I just redirect it to the Deus Ex directory where all the folders are located (maps, textures, system) and I just assume thats where its needed.

  25. I thought Id ask: Does the a series of steps, with HDTP and DX10 combined, have the same shaders and stuff that ENB has. Also I have followed the 2b setup.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Summary: I installed NV and ENB and also the kentie launcher, DX9. When I launch Deus Ex I use the DX9 of course because thats whats compatible with ENB. And of course I have installed shifter. I have not installed the enhancer. I recently installed a DX computer update for the hell of it so I could see if DX10 would work on windows (stupid I know) but this should not matter.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I meant windows XP. Oh and all of those comments are from me Haus.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Haus: Im an idiot and didnt update the game. I assumed since it was GOTY that it wasnt a problem. However, your "Guide" doesnt provide enough details about .ini editings. For example the shinysurfaces=True; the problem extends to HDTP and Enhancer. Well if anyone needs help with that let me know because youve got my email.

  29. New Vision has a hotfix on moddb.

  30. download links are down?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Kentie's exe is down. So is his renderer. I'll upload the copies I use.

  32. Don't worry about it Lusit, they're back up.
